Traded the Montego

Hi there - Haven't been in the forum for a while, as the 'Tego and the Freestyle have both been doing well. Swapped rides with the wife last summer as I needed the hauling that the Freestyle provided, and the wife was living the good life in the Montego. As you can guess, after a few months of drivi...

Re: 2006 Ford 500 CVT Trans AWD Limited

On our 2007 Freestyle AWD, we had the factory P6's and had them wearing like garbage (with the inner-tire wear folks are showing). I replaced them with a set of Michelin Primacy MXV4's, and had an alignment done at the same time. The alignment was off just a bit, but nothing that would attribute to ...

Re: Wiper blade problem

Having owned both a Freestyle for almost 4 years and my Montego for 3 years, the only blades that have worked properly are the OEM replacement blades from Ford. I buy mine either thru RockAuto or an online seller, and get them for a price similar to some of the premium aftermarket blades referenced ...

Re: Rear Rotors-cryogenically or cross drilled?

Personally, I can't see the benefit or advantage of slotted or drilled rotors with any of our vehicles, as their intent is to vent in extreme heat situations. Unless you're autocrossing or towing significant amounts, there's no real advantage for the extra cost, IMHO. IN terms of cryo-treated rotors...

Re: 05 500 limited A/C problem

My dad just had the A/C compressor go out on his late 90's Town Car - had it replaced at a local garage with a reman unit and the total cost, including the evac/fill of the system, was just a tick over $600. Are the compressors on our Duratec's THAT much more expensive? Are there components other th...

Re: oil

You can't beat the OEM Motorcraft Syn Blend 5W20 at WalMart for $11.50 for a 5 quart jug. And an extra quart is about 3 bucks to complete the change. And with a Motorcraft filter (FL820S) at $3.67 you can do the job for a cheap price and get the syn blend protection. The recommended oil change inte...

Re: Audio Help

I've noticed cars with modern suspensions are more apt to transfer road noise into the cabin than in the past. And it's not so much the sound deadening aspect as much as it is the transfer of the noise through the suspension to the body/frame of the car - so no matter how much Dynamat you put in - y...

Re: Tires

I've been reading that the Hydro-Edge is a little noisy. I want a quiet, comfortable tire. GoodYear has the Assurance Comfort Thread that is suppose to be very quiet and comfortable without giving up much handling. The Triple Tred gets very high ratings in reviews. If you want quiet, the Comfort Tr...

Re: Tires

Thnaks for the charts and explanation. Andy, What are you looking to put on the Montego? I've got 18" rims on the Montego, with stock 225-55R18 tires that are available in the Primacy. I am considering also going to a 225-60R18 in the same Primacy, as that's the size the Freestyle uses and they'll ...

Re: Tires

I have the same tires just 225/50-18 size, they have performed great so far in the first 4500 miles I've put on them. The same tires as what? How did you choose what tires to get? I'm pretty sure he's talking about the Hankook Optimo H727. They were highly rated by Consumer reports last year, and a...

Re: 2008 Taurus with rear brake noise

I learned a long time ago that after you wash the car you always drive it around to dry off the brakes and get the motor warmed up before you park it for the night. Even leaving my Hondas parked overnight without doing this would cause mulitple odd issues - and that's how I learned the "drive before...

Re: Install '08 radio into '06?

I went thru a similar mental analysis just recently. We just got our son a used Mazda Tribute (aka Ford Escape) and the factory radio had a bum display and the cd would skip after a while. I was looking into getting a factory 6-disc changer off of eBay or a local bone yard, but was concerned I'd spe...

Re: 2008 Taurus Limited AWD with rear brake pop noise

I, too, had a vehicle that sat on the lot for a very long time before I took delivery. In my casse it was a 2007 Montego the dealer too delivery on in June 2006 and I bought in February 2008 - 20 months in my case - with only 140 miles on the odometer. I figure the car had a couple of test drives, b...

Re: Just bought a 06 500 AWD limited

With the CVT, stop-and-go driving kill the mpg's. The tranny simply loves to be in a constant cruising mode - that's when the mpg's really shine. Driving in a rural setting with some stop and go both the Freestyle and Montego will get 20-22 on average. Bring it to speed for longer stretches - either...

This stuff is exactly like DRI WASH 'n GUARD , and more so, SmartONE Waterless Car Wash, Wax & Sealant , and BriteSide® Miracle Wash Waterless Wash and Polish . I don't know, feel free to call me a snob, but I won't use this stuff on darker colors. I'm too afraid of swirl marks. As an Amsoil dealer...

+2 on the PXAMG unit by Peripheral electronics. Have had the unit installed in my Montego for well over a year now and it's been outstanding. Make sure you get it with the wiring harness adapter specific for our Fords and you'll have it installed in 10 minutes. I ran the iPod connector into the cent...
