Re: I want to swap out rear lamps.....any help ?

Sure it's different wiring, but they will still work. Check out the pics under my profile of my former '06 Fiver. I ditched the amber turn signals, put white bulbs in and wired that socket in with the backup lights so that I had 2 backup lights per side. I just had the tail/stop/turn signals all go ...

Re: wiper blades

Personally I prefer the OEM style of wiper blade on the '05-'09 Five Hundred/Taurus. Anco used to have the OEM style blades, but the last time I went looking for them I could not find them so I just bought them at the dealer. If you bought an aftermarket set, they should come with various adapters t...

Re: Need snow chains for FWD Taurus X Limited 225/60/18

Minnesota does not allow chains/studs on tires on public roads unless there is significant snow/ice buildup. Some states, such as Colorado, require that you have chains available to cross some of the mountain passes. And if it is snowing they will stop everyone and require you to 'chain up' or turn ...

Re: CVT reliability and repair?

I can't say from experience since mine only made it to 45k miles, but everything I have heard is that they are very reliable transmissions as long as the fluid is changed every 60K as required by the service schedule. The transmissions are made in Europe by a reputable manufacturer (whose name escap...

Wow!
That would suck big time.
But on the plus side, new engine after only 5K miles.

Re: Subaru AWD vs. competitors

Interesting video. I would have liked to have seen how the Audi Quattro and Volvo/Ford/VW Haldex equipped vehicles would do on those ramps. I noticed one moron in the comments stated that the 4Motion and Quattro are the same. Wrong. The true Quattro is a Torsen based system, but Audi does use the Qu...

Re: '05 Montego Rattling In Front End

Sway bar end links are a definite cause of low speed noise over bumps. Just replace both sides while you are at it. Wouldn't hurt to replace the rear pair also.

When they went bad on my Audi it sounded like the suspension was falling apart every time I hit a bump in the road at low speeds.

Re: What struts for 2005 Five Hundred

The sway bar end links should have some 'flex' to them, but you should not be able to move them significantly with your hands. End links do wear out and will cause a 'rattling' or similar noise (been there, done that with my Audi). The actual sway bar should still be fine. Go to your local auto part...

Re: What struts for 2005 Five Hundred

Ask your local dealer for pricing...
And make sure to note the part numbers.

And then go with the Motorcraft parts from the options you list above.

At least that is the route I would take.

Re: What struts for 2005 Five Hundred

The two different part numbers would be for FWD versus AWD. The AWD suspension is approximately 1 inch higher. If they don't specify the difference on the site, you should probably call them to be sure you order the correct set. FWD rear struts are 'normal'. AWD rear struts are Nivomat self-adjustin...

Re: Another one bites the dust...

The accident was in the 'spaghetti junction' by Fort Snelling. I have had too many near misses in that area and now this accident so I have started taking another route to work. I am actually doing OK for only 2 days after the accident. I was the only person in my car and the other driver was solo a...

Another one bites the dust...

My '06 Five Hundred is no more. Accident on Wednesday resulted in $13K in damages and the list retail is only $14.5K. Picking up the payout (after remaining loan is paid off) and buying a new car tomorrow. The new car? 2010 Subaru Legacy 3.6 Limited Luxury baby. And still a great AWD system. Still s...

Re: Changed Plugs & Wires, Now..

Well, I'll take a stab at it, but you didn't mention the year.... If you have a cap/rotor that probably needs to be changed. When you changed the wires, did you route them the same as the original wires? Sometimes if you cross a couple wires just right it will cause misfiring. Did you gap the plugs ...

Re: ctv transmission

My understanding is that there are specific properties to the transmission fluid and it 'wears out'.

My opinion is to 'play it safe' and have the fluid changed at 60K.

Just my $0.02.

Re: ctv transmission

What you are describing sounds normal for the CVT. At least it sounds like my CVT. If you want to 'stop light race', drop the shift lever into Low before the light turns green and when it does, stick the go pedal to the floor. You can surprise a lot of drivers that way who think that such a large ve...

I had mine done while my Five Hundred was still under warranty.
It requires a new motor.

I would think since it is a TSB, it would be covered whether you have the warranty or not, but what do I know... :-)

Just my $0.02..... Fog/driving/low-beam Doesn't really matter if they are all aimed correctly they won't blind you. The biggest problem is the yahoos that never aim their lights or replace burnt-out bulbs on their cars. As for the 'deer whistles'.... Big rip off. Junk. My dad had them on an older F2...

Re: Weathertech trunk liner

I'll add a vote for WeatherTech products.
Just received the side window deflectors (front and rear).
Took me all of 10 minutes to install all four.
I really like them (so far).
The light tint version is only slightly darker than the OEM window tint and they don't stick out very far.
