Emergency Brake

Post by Pastor J » Sat Jun 23, 2012 8:02 pm

My emergency brake has been acting up and it is getting worse. About 50% of the time it will not engage when you press the emergency brake pedal.

Any ideas why?

I dont have a Taurus or Sable so this may be completely useless information, im just going off previous experience with other vehicles that I have had a similar problem. I am going to assume your vehicle is set up similar to what I have worked on before, single cable going to one of the rear wheels to engage that brake.

One instance the cable was stretched out, there isnt much you can do other than replace it.

The more common problem I had was the mechanism at the wheel/brake was dirty, rusty or seized. Ive always had success by cleaning and greasing.
Its been a while but if I remember correctly the mechanism is typically some kind of leaver and spring.

Pastor, did you ever find out what was causing your emergency brake failure. I am having the same problem.

it's a faulty emergency brake assembly. It is covered under the premium care. The part is $148 + labor otherwise (at my local Ford dealer)
