I've only had it 10 months so my list is rather short. Compared to my saturn, I love love love the taurus. But here is 3 things I don't like.

1. The lights are not bright. Idk what a HID or a LED light is but if its as bright as you guys say, I want one.
2. The effin mirrors are not heated. I hate when it the mirrors are foggy or when it rain or snow, I gotta reach out the window to wipe them off.
3. The fact that I have to pay for a A5 chip since my a4 just magically stop working yesterday and I just got the car in FEB.

1. HID Kits are fairly easy to install and about $100

2. The mirrors should be heated there is not a separate button but are tied into the rear defroster. If you turn the rear defroster the mirrors should defrost too.

3. Shop around you should be able to find a A5 card fairly cheap. I got mine for around $60 including shipping eBay should be a good starting point.

The A5 card was a major update and provided not only map updates but more clarity and enhancements to the overall map graphics. If you can find one at a reasonable price it is worthwhile.

Note also that the 100 dollar kits aren't strictly legal. A true HID retrofit is more expensive. The kits only have bulbs and ballasts, the optics of a halogen fixture are not designed to spread HID light correctly. That said, does not appear as if most have had glare issues (for oncoming drivers) thankfully.

MFT Climate defaults to outside air... Well there are plenty of dead skunks on the roads around here, and that darn thing knows exactly when I'm about to come on one... It will default to outside air every time just before I get there... Can Ford not give us credit for having a small portion of a brain and know where (recirculate) we want the air set...???
Or am I the dummy here, and it can be changed if I just knew how...???
Have a good one...Tater...

Hi Everyone ! I just bought my 2014 Taurus Limited last month (had a Taurus wagon years ago). Love the sports car feel. Coming from a 2004 Grand Marquis with 188,000 miles. 2 complaints so far:

1. Cannot stop horn from blowing when I close the car doors when the engine isn't running. Called Ford to tell me how to turn that off and no response. Nothing in manual so I'm guessing there's no way to turn it off. Maybe a fuse to remove?

2. I don't like leaving the parking lights on after I park and lock (or leave unlocked in the garage) the car. I thought I found something in the settings to the left of the speedometer and thought I turned it off, but apparently, if I did turn it off, it didn't stick.

Other than that, I'm having a ball driving this baby! I've always been a Ford or Mercury guy. In my 45 driving years, I've only had a 1966 Dodge van and 1984 Toyota Supra. Everything else? Ford or Merc. Trying to do my part to help Detroit. haha.

Todos: I'm an audiophile so looking to replace door speakers. Have a list of about 10. They are 6x8, correct? I've read 5x7 will also fit. Recommendations?
UPDATE: A car stereo guy told me that this car has an electronic crossover so there would be no point in replacing the door speakers as there aren't car speakers just for frequencies below whatever the crossover frequency is. Hmmm.

Want brighter headlight lighting but don't want to go HID. Recommendations? 9012 seems to be a relatively new bulb so my research comes up with OEM replacement only. Note that I don't mean I want a bulb with different temperature. I want more lumens.

My dislikes:

Wet sunroof - the design allows water to leak into the car if you are going through a high pressure car wash

Transmission is a little wonky in D mode

Weird noise coming from the back of the dashboard when going +60mph

That's about it...MFT has been perfect for me and some of the dislikes you posted here are part of the reason I bought the car lol
So happy I don't have a sunroof!!

You said tranny feels "Wonky", Yep, I get that. I will also go with wonky! Maybe a tuner can firm up the shifts? I don't know..

NO low end bass for the stereo!! WTF??!!

Engine could use a little more low end torque. It's not bad, but not great.

My driver seat has the side of the "leather" pulling up. It's not bad enough that it drives me crazy, but I don't like it!

I have the same issue sometimes that when the horn sounds when I shut the door. Ford dealers cant duplicate the issue. Its annoying. Sounds like you got some electrical ghosts like I do. Those lights shouldnt stay on after you lock.

Right, sometimes it does and sometimes it doesn't. I'm thinking the difference is if the car is on without the engine's running and that's when shutting the door sounds the horn.

Re the parking lights, I don't lock the doors in my garage. Maybe that's when they stay on. The car thinks I'm getting back in soon. Haha.

That shouldn't happen. That car needs a dealer trip. It should only do a couple of horn chirps when (1) engine running while (2) driver exits with remote fob in pocket.

There's a confused module in there somewhere, or something may be entirely misprogrammed from the factory.
2. I don't like leaving the parking lights on after I park and lock (or leave unlocked in the garage) the car. I thought I found something in the settings to the left of the speedometer and thought I turned it off, but apparently, if I did turn it off, it didn't stick.
The parking lights should turn off after the doors are locked. The parking lights will remain on for 30 seconds or so when the doors are left unlocked but otherwise secured. Again, I think there is a confused module somewhere.

That feature MAY be able to be turned off as a customer preference item with IDS (dealer tools). I'll check the WSM after this post for the customer preference items that can be changed. Few dealers will know how to do it, however, and they'll probably need to call engineering for assistance if it's even possible.

There are crossovers in the driver and passenger front door that lead to the tweeters in the a-pillars. I replaced all four door speakers and left the tweeters unhooked.

I contacted Daniel Stern, automotive lighting consultant a while ago about this issue. The 9012 bulb is rated for 1875 lumens (or thereabout). There is no DOT-approved upgrade from where you currently stand. My only thought is that there may be a voltage drop issue at the bulbs (thin gauge wiring problems?) but that is beyond my personal expertise.

Domain, I have yet to be able to find a dealer to fix the issues. NONE can duplicate it.

Thanks for your responses, Domain ! Very helpful. I think there are scenarios where the horn and light behaviors I describe do occur and not a result of confused modules (or... *I* am the confused module!). I did have the remote FOB with me when the engine was off and I shut the doors so that explains that. And I think you're right - the lights stay on only when the car is left unlocked.

Some of the behaviors you described, earlier explained, seem a bit inconsistent with how the vehicle should behave. At worst case, check with your salesperson to make sure that the car is treating you how it should and make your way to service as necessary.

Also, I checked... forget what I said about "customer preference items" earlier. What I had thought may have been one actually wasn't.

2011 Taurus SEL I don't like the parking brake in the floor I'm 6'6'' so it's a little hard to get my leg that high. Also don't like the fact I can't disable the stability control. That sucks when trying to drift in a snowy empty parking lot please no hate for that it was safe and very flat!

2014 Taurus - I do NOT like the overall vehicle vibration felt while driving at speeds 55 to 75mph.

Otherwise, the car is great, good fuel economy, roomy, nice appearance, large trunk.

Sure wish this vibration problem would get resolved. Brought to dealership for vibration problem first time at 1300 or so miles and now has 12000 plus and 4-5 dealer visits. I'm told it is a "characteristic" of this vehicle!! sad...............

I also have a 2014 with about 10,000 miles and I don't notice any unusual vibrations at any speed.

I suggest going to your Ford dealership and 'test drive' another 2014 Taurus (even if it's used...maybe even preferably). If it has those vibrations then I guess you can buy their line about it being a 'characteristic'.....but I'm willing to wager that you won't experience them. If I'm correct, and you don't experience vibrations, then take the mechanic for a ride in BOTH cars.

----------------

In 2014 they went with a little bit better tires (at least on the SHO)....but maybe that's the issue. Considering you have a vehicle that most likely still has factory tires (that may still be under warranty) I'd look into that being the issue.
