2014 Taurus Highway Vibration

Post by peterdoodoo » Tue Jan 20, 2015 9:09 pm

My 2014 Taurus has had a vibration since new. I have had the car in for service three time and tires have been balanced each time. NO help. I have been told that this is a characteristic of this vehicle!! Hard to believe that this issue cannot be resolved. The problem occurs at 60 and gets worse up to 75mph or so. Any ideas out there? Anyone have this problem? Did you get it fixed?

No car has a vibration built into a car. It could be a bad tire.Take a close inspection of the tread and sidewalls inside and out. I had a tire separate on the inside on my12 SHO at about 50,000 miles. It could be also a bad brake rotor. It could be out of balance.

check your tires could be unbalanced or a broken belt. If the tires are good check your rotors to see if they are warped.

this issue was noticed when I first got the car. I brought it to the dealership at 1300 miles. tires were dynamic balanced. next time balanced again and rotated. doubt if the dealer checked for rotor issues. I would think a broken belt issue would have been found.

Sometimes just putting a tire on the balancer will check for balance but when you put weight on the tire things can change and other problems may show up.

I have the exact same issue on my 2014 SEL. Balanced twice and rotated twice already from my local Ford Dealership. Vibration starts around 60mph, and gets worse closer to 70mph. Tires look fine, not sure about the rotors :(.

Please advise.

The reality is you can balance a square tire but it's going to give you vibration.

The diagnostic on this issues is beyond simple. Have the dealer grab another Taurus off the lot and move the tires and wheels to your car and go for a drive. If the vibration goes away it's a tire problem. The tires have a warranty and the dealer should take care of it.

In the event you still have the vibration then the dealer should be looking else where. Out of balance rotors are very rare and unlikely (not impossible but I've only ever seen one). I have seen bad half shafts and support bearings though.

Either way the only way to be sure is do the tire/wheel swap as a diagnostic tool.

ialam, any luck yet with your taurus? does the dealer tell you that it is a characteristic of that vehicle? that is what I am being told.
seems as though this may be a larger problem than is thought - we need more taurus owners to speak up to help get someone involved that can fix the problem.

on my 2014 Taurus, the tires were balanced three times and rotated - no help. all these tire removals and installs just ruined the lug nuts(damaged the chrome cover on the fastener itself), that's the only thing that I noted.

Tires and or wheels are probably suspect. Same issue with our interceptor. Once we switched over to winter tires the vibration disappeared.

Peter,

Just starting talks with Ford Customer Service. Will probably go in to the dealership sometime this week. They'll probably ask me to drop it off over the weekend. Grand Prairie Ford out here in TX has a reputation---the bad kind.

Will keep everyone updated.

Dropped off my car this morning. They say that everything looks normal: Tires, Brake Rotors, Balance etc. The service adviser and the service manager didn't feel any unusual vibrations when they test drove it; but I still beg to differ :(

I guess my next step would be to get an Alignment done to see if it helps.

Any luck with yours ?

You need to take them for a ride and show them the problem. They cant fix anything unless they feel the problem.

The Bone- they have seen the problem on my car and others. The dealer states that this is a characteristic of this vehicle. Strange response for a problem. I am going to a different dealership and get their reaction to a real issue.
