2014 Police Interceptor

Post by Mister Peepers » Thu Sep 12, 2019 1:03 pm

Just bought the car, and the headlights don't work. Turn signals and brake lights are fine. I have read that there is a upfitter harness that is likely to blame for the issue, and I just need to remove it.

Can anyone give me some location information? I'm not sure where to look, or what to look for.

I brought the car to a Ford dealer, and they won't touch it.

Thanks in advance.

just search google for the modifier guides - they come up as .PDF files.

You may get lucky and it's a harness thing or you might need to spend some time chasing wiring. The downside is that the 'downfitting' process before sale to the civilian market is often more of a slash and cut job to disable police functions and not returning everything to functionality (horn, lights, steering buttons, etc.).

Check the obvious before chasing wiring: are the headlight bulbs good?

One headlight was out on mine when I bought it. Turned out both headlight bulbs were on their way out. It looked like the PD used the cheapest bulbs they could buy.

Headlights check a google search some else had the same problem. There is a power distribution box and the headlights plug is disconnected from the power distribution box, a larger harness is plugged into the headlight position on distribution box and runs towards the trunk of the car where the police power and equipment is mounted. The Ford headlight plugs goes into the police wiring harness at the Ford distribution box . When they strip off the police equipment they remove that rear police harness unplugging the Ford Headlight plug, and do not connect it back into the Factory distribution box.

The bulbs were good. I just wasn't getting 12V at the bulb plugs.

It turns out that a good bit of the police harness was still there, and removing it was the fix.

Thank you all for the help.

Cool. Maybe post a pic of what you encounteted and removed. Might assist the next person with the same issue. Nothing more frustrating than following a string of replies and still not finding the answer. Picture worth a 1000 words.. thanks

Mine had a rear harness cut up so no brake, tail or backup lights and the rear camera and parking aid didn't work. You need the wiring diagrams to start. https://www.ebay.com/itm/2014-FORD-SERV ... SwzStdUHcX

Don't pay for wiring diagrams on eBay. That stuff is already on the internet for free.

I am chasing down my horn not working! I have only found a few wires cut so far on mine.
