Just bought a 06 500 AWD limited

Post by woodsman » Mon Mar 08, 2010 9:24 pm

She's a real beaut for sure. I traded in my 97 F150 4x4 for it and man what a difference!!!.
I am 50 miles south of buffalo in the ole snow belt so the AWD will work out just fine tried it out and yep it's a winner. It is titanium green with the tan leather and all the bells and whistles. The only thing i cannot find is the reading for the outside temp display (anybody).
Well if it performs as well as my F150 did (309,xx miles) thrn i will be a happy camper... go ford

Thanks Jim

Welcome aboard!

There is a button on the Climate control that says EXT that will display it.

Keep the CVT fluid changed, it will keep the car alive.

Use only Ford CVT fluid.

DO NOT FLUSH THE CVT FLUID. Drain/Refill and change the Filter.

Well it's been a couple weeks now and the Car continues to grow on me. The gas mileage is unreal at 28.9 mpg after last fill up. 17 gallons and i went 491 miles wow. The ride is great, handles well looks even better and it is comfy for my 120+ mile commute. I like the CVT tranny took some getting used to but i like it. Great car so far... no complaints

As wchain and Gomer Pyle said....Change it, change it, change it, the CVT fluid regularly (30,000 miles) with Ford CVT fluid at a COMPETENT and FRIENDLY Ford dealer.

You can let it go longer, Been there....done that! Didn't work for me. I don't on my Aisin 6 speed. 30,000 miles is all I will go.

I just bought the Fluid and changed it at home.

Drained, measured the exact amount drained, then refilled the same amount.

I didn't notice the fluid was dirty, but was slightly discolored.

Car didn't 'rubber band' as bad as before and was smoother.

Some of the mechanics on here have recommended 30K intervals versus Ford's ridiculous 150,000 mile interval. After losing one Aisin 6 speed. To harsh 4th to 3rd downshifts. I have had the dealer change it every 30,000 miles. So far the second one has gone farther than the first one did. The first one lasted 97,000 and the second one is already past 104,000 miles on it and still going.

I would think the CVT endures much more punishment, but I might be wrong.

Sad thing of it is, I believed Ford and my dealer ship and they were WRONG!

30K intervals is a good idea to keep the fluid in good shape.

CVTs are not rebuildable by the dealer, they replace them.

Well the gas mileage is very impressive and my last 2 tanks were as follows, almost highway driving
502 miles. filled up 18.1 gallons
2nd tank 516 miles and 18.0gallon to fill up, over 28 mpg with awd how can that be any more impressive, my wife's 02 rav4 gets 26-27 on the highway... I like this car.... big time.

How are you guys getting such great gas mileage? My '05 Limited (6-speed AWD) display's showing 20.2 average right now. Granted, a lot of my driving is just to school and back (five blocks or so), but 28 mpg seems really high. Any tips on getting better mileage?

:?: I had a '05 Limited AWD and it had the CVT gearbox and I thought all the AWD's in that model had the CVT. I will agree that the mileage was not very impressive.

I use the cruise almost always, and like i said it is almost all highway miles @ 70mph. I can take a pic for any non believers out there. I traded my 97 F-150 for this car and i know bag gas mileage, it may have gotton 15 on the highway and my commute is 67 miles each way 5 days a week and some times 6. My wife drives it to school and back everyday and its 40+ miles so the car gets no less that 200 driven miles a day. (scary)

With the CVT, stop-and-go driving kill the mpg's. The tranny simply loves to be in a constant cruising mode - that's when the mpg's really shine. Driving in a rural setting with some stop and go both the Freestyle and Montego will get 20-22 on average. Bring it to speed for longer stretches - either highway or rural roads with little stopping - and you can easily get into the mid or upper 20's. In this case, weight and aerodynamics kick in - and with the FS I can get maybe 24-25, but with the Montego i can easily get into the 26-28 range.

Took a road trip to Syracuse from NH (and back) last month - headwind in both directions - go figure. Speed averaged 73 on the highway. Got 26mpg for the round trip. Not bad for an AWD sedan that's comfortable as hell to drive!

went on vacation and took the 500 man what a great car for sure, i drove 400 miles and when i got out it was like i was refreshed no stiffness nothing. I also got 30.2 MPG on the highway and it climbs the mountains well not a problem. the car performed perfectly and after 1400 miles of vacation miles i remain impressed with this ride.. We were in vermont and NH and all the mountains were a breeze.... great car,, well done FORD....

I bought this car with 29,k on it and now has just under 45k on it and less than 6 months and no issues... zero, none.
