Spoiler -- ???
Spoiler -- ???
Does the spoiler (2015 Taurus) actually have a benefit at normal Hwy. speeds, or is it just a looks thing only, at normal Hwy. speeds...
I feel sure if I was running at 180 mph. it would probably be functional, but I'm thinking at normal speeds it is just there...
I was thinking that if it had a benefit at say 60-80 mph. I might add it on to my order, but I don't want to spend $275 for an add on that don't do anything ...
Thanks and have a good one...Tater...

It's not going to do anything. Ever. You dont have a RWD vehicle, so whatever downforce it creates, is basically a waste. It's purely aesthetic.
Re: Spoiler -- ???
My thoughts exactly (non functional)... And I can use the $275 on something else...lol...Derick wrote:It's not going to do anything. Ever. You dont have a RWD vehicle, so whatever downforce it creates, is basically a waste. It's purely aesthetic.

Re: Spoiler -- ???
It comes stock on the SHO and yes it does produce downforce. The spoilet on my GT500 is smaller and it produces downforce. As to how much no one can say for sure unless you have a wind tunnel to test it. I wasnt aware it was a option on any model other than the SHO since I havent seen one on any other model. My rear view camera is mounted under there. I dont like the location but it is what it is. I do like the look.

Yes, it is an option on the SEL & Limited, it is listed right under the sun/moon roof and @ $275, also when I add it, it adds the $275 to my price...The Bone wrote:It comes stock on the SHO and yes it does produce downforce. My salesman is getting the V8 SHO, same color as mine, but with the spoiler, I'm not getting the spoiler though, that way no one will notice I traded the 2014 Sterling Gray Metallic, as the Magnetic is very close to the same color, although I liked the Sterling Gray Metallic a bit more...lol...

Re: Spoiler -- ???
Funny thing about the spoiler. I dont drive this car that fast. I have only had it to 100 a couple of times and usually cruise at 80 which is the flow of traffic sometimes. Take a look at a sho with the spoiler and look at a Taurus without and see if you like the look. Before you all laugh I have another car that I go to 100 everytime I get on the freeway. LOL
Re: Spoiler -- ???
Ha, ha, I know exactly what you mean, I was not always an old man...lol... I had one of the first 66 Dodge Coronet 500s with a w/426 Hemi, I ordered it 6 mos. before production began... I remember one time on a Monday, in the wee hours of the morning, going west and changing time zones that I thought I was going to be almost an hour late for work (stayed on the job during the week) and did a run of 119 mi. in 55 min., it was +/-80-90% interstate and the other good US 2 lane... In the 1960s there was no where near the traffic of today, especially that early in the morning...The Bone wrote:Funny thing about the spoiler. I dont drive this car that fast. Back to the spoiler... When I ordered the Coronet I was going to get the Daytona, but when I showed the Daytona picture to the wife, she ask what is that thing on the back, I said that's a spoiler, she replied, it really works, that is the ugliest car I have ever seen...lol...
I wound up ordering the Coronet 500 Hemi, a true sleeper in those days...
Almost 50 yrs. later and I still remember the valve clearances (.028" & .032" and the plugs I ran, Champion N64Ys)...
The way these new modern Tech. engines run, I often wonder what the 426 Hemi would have done with todays technology & builds...

Ha, ha, not meant to be any kind of plug for Mopar, we're talking 50 yrs. ago...lol...
I belong to a VN705 (Kawasaki) forum and ride a 1200 HD Sportster, but I have owned 3 VN750 Kaws., we have no problems mentioning other brands ...
I don't see folks getting upset over the mention of another brand auto or cycle, we kid and joke about each others bike, but in fun...lol...
Hello, I learned to drive in an "A" model, first car that was ever titled to me was a 49 ford 6 cyl. that would squeal the tires when I hit 2nd gear...lol...

Re: Spoiler -- ???
My first car was a 54 Desoto. It had a hemi!!!
Re: Spoiler -- ???
You guys are killing me! Even though I have a Taurus now, I have owned 10 Mopars (Dodges and Plymouths) over the years, and I still have two of them now. My Dad got me started on Mopars, but my biggest disappointment in life was in 1958 when he "almost" bought a new big-fin-beauty Desoto. Well, he decided not to, and then waited a year and bought a '59 Ford Galaxie. YIKES!

OK---Back to the OP question on the spoiler...Derick wrote:It's not going to do anything. Ever. You dont have a RWD vehicle, so whatever downforce it creates, is basically a waste. It's purely aesthetic.
Derick, my thoughts exactly, I totally agree with your statement, but it does add a bit more sporty look IMO, so I think I will go by today and add it to the order if it's not too late, which I don't think it is...

Re: Spoiler -- ???
The down force produced by the spoiler is for balance in the corners. A front wheel drive car doesn't matter. Its more pressure on the rear tires so they stay planted to the ground at higher speeds in the corners. I am not saying that it produces as much down force as the ones they use in nascar because its a different thing with 900 horses at 200 MPH. I'm not really saying at 45 it may not do much ether. Its not even good for drag racing because you dont go that fast in the quarter mile to need it. It does however produce some down force for the rear tires to stay planted to the road and more is better.
I spent $600 for Carroll Shelby to sign my GT500. It didn't make it fast but it sure looks cool. No down force though LOL.

Re: Spoiler -- ???
Looks great.... I just got back from the dealer and was told that it had been assigned a VIN #, but he would call and see if it could still be added, he said if not they could install one, I told him, no if it was not factory installed to drop it...The Bone wrote:Photobucket is killing me. Bone,
That is a nice looking GT 500 you have there. Did I see a SC Cobra in one of your photobucket pics?
