2013 Ford Taurus SHO PP PTU Issues

Post by svenergy » Wed Dec 21, 2016 7:49 am

So I have a 2013 Ford Taurus SHO PP and I had a recall on the PTU that they fixed because the PTU leaked all over my garage. They fixed or claim they fixed the PTU. I went under the car and the PTU looked brand new. The problem I have with Marshall Ford in O Fallon Missouri is that they put a new PTU into my car and I am driving down the HWY and smell burning. When I get to the place I had to go I looked and seen oil all over the engine, all underneath and the ptu is dripping. No idea where that all came from. The fluid is clear. I checked the fluids in the car and they were all good. So I assume that it is the PTU with new fluid. I just dont know what fluid is clear in color. It looks like clear syrup. I took the car in on December 9th at 7 am and they said ok well look at it. Well guess what ????? the car is still there and I have been down there and even called and the car is still there its the 21st of December. Sure they put me in a loaner but come on putting it on the rack and saying this is whats wrong doesnt take 5 man hours. I wish that ford would start standing behind its vehicles and dealerships would be held accountable for piss poor service.
I have bugged and bugged my wife to get this car fixed, which i love, and let me trade it in for a Dodge Charger STR8 392, because at this point I think that Fords are a piece of crap and whom ever is building them doesnt care. Just that I can not get anyone to fix this car and I have complained about it over and over and over again from the ford SYNC crap which has had 1 update and no idea why it cant be updated to SYNC3.. its a microsoft product, they updated my computer to their new stuff why not the car. The brakes on these cars are not that good, Headlights could use improvement very dim from factory. The car is a good car just tired of it being in the shop so much.

Hope there is a Ford Rep that would get involved and get my car fixed once and for all. The PTU thing is crap and 12 days in the shop sitting there is crazy.

There have been many reports on the Taurus / Edge / Flex boards about the PTU failing. The main symptoms are the dark fluid leaking out, bad noises, etc.

Does the invoice for that work show that they replaced it or just cleaned it and replaced the fluid? "Fixed the PTU" isn't very specific.

The Charger would be a fun car but don't kid yourself, it likely won't be any more reliable than your Ford. Fiat Chrysler doesn't exactly make dependable cars.

There used to be a Ford rep on the forum here for anything Ford. They left but they do have a rep that could help you with SYNC issues - memberlist.php?mode=viewprofile&u=8902

If I was you, I'd talk to the GM at the dealership and put some pressure on that level to find out why they've had the car for almost 2 weeks and done basically nothing this time around.
2000 Ford Taurus SEL (excellent car, sold to a friend)

My guess they are waiting for a field service or engineer from Ford to look at your car. Relax you have a rental on there dime. As for the headlights, I have a 12 and they are very bright if you don't like how bright they are let them know. I think they are different on the SHO. I think you are getting all twisted up for nothing. They will find the problem and it will get fixed.Don't go and buy some stupid a$# Dodge crap. they only look good from the outside but inside not so much and they are not that good on fuel millage ether. They also weigh as much as a elephant LOL
