I have a 12 SHO with 57k. Since about 40k the car would make a loud thumping noise and the car will vibrate like it just ran over a monster pothole. It was very random when it first started but now it happens every single day, even when I reverse into park it would do the same thing once in a while. I took it to the dealer Koons Ford Falls Church, VA where I purchased the car. Their master mechanic rode with me and brought his laptop to hook up to the CPU. I was able to duplicate the problem for him several times but his program didn't pick up anything unusual. I've been waiting for over a month now and the only answer they have for me is they're waiting on Ford to get back to them. I took it to another Ford dealer and explained the problem and now waiting to hear back from them. If anyone had this problem please let me know as my powertrain warranty will be gone at 60k or April 2018. I love this tuxedo black SHO and I hate to part ways with it
They said my tires are wearing out unevenly so that could be causing something with the traction being thrown off. They recommended me to put 4 new tires on even though my fronts are 5mm and back has 4mm left. I personally don't think a tire could be the reason especially since it thumps once in a while reversing into a parking spot. The worst part is they tried to charge me a $175 diagnostic fee, I don't know what to do at this point.
Yeah that was some BS. Have you tried reaching under and grabbing the axles and seeing if you can move them? Can't do that with the car on the rack. Suspension has to be loaded. Try and rotate them and move them from side to side.
It sounds like the tires are the result, of a suspension problem, not the cause. It's not rocket science, but sometimes the dealership plays games with us to get a larger fee. A good mechanic, should be able to tell what the problem is. This isn't an attack on mechanics, I know excellent mechanics. Just that some dealerships should avoided for shoddy practices. I hope you get the problem resolved.
