2003 Sable Duratec DOHC - Drive Belt Noise

Post by Oceanic » Thu Aug 03, 2017 5:47 pm

Little bit of background. My A/C compressor went out about two months ago and I have been driving the car without repairing it. Pretty terrible in this Arizona summer. Anyway, a few days ago I noticed a slight "grinding" noise at a stoplight but it went away and I didn't hear it again until this afternoon. I inspected the motor and realized the grinding noise (similar to driving on a rim) was coming from the drive belt. I can't tell exactly but I believe the A/C clutch bearing is bad. Once home, and after further inspection, I started the car up and it sounded completely different. Very loud hum coming from the engine compartment. In the driver's seat, I thought it was a jet plane passing overhead. It is hard to determine where the hum is coming from but I would assume it's related to this bad bearing.

Anybody have ideas? Comments or further questions to aid in diagnosing? Suggestions? DOHC 3.0 24v
